The tea house

Perhaps it was the heat, perhaps it was an over-stimulated imagination, but the first sip of cinnamon-infused coffee in a Bukhara tea house sent me on an out-of-body excursion to Iran and Turkey.

Bukhara is one of the most ancient of Silk Road citadels. It was talked about by biblical titan Daniel, was a political capital in its own right, and formed a centre for Eastern art, architecture and music; with a single sip of coffee I was no longer in Uzbekistan but in the spice-scented streets of old Persia.
